We make cards in the style of cardmaking - master class

This can be presented at a wedding or presented for any other occasion. For work, take:
  • a postcard with flowers;
  • white acrylic paint;
  • glossy;
  • glue;
  • Distress vintage photo;
  • roses with a diameter of 3.5 cm;
  • stationery knife.
Take a finished card that needs to be transformed so that it looks like you drew it yourself. Before that, use a glossy accent to highlight small details in the drawing, such as small flowers, buds and leaves. Let the glossy dry, then tint the surface using Distress vintage photo. Apply white acrylic paint to the corners of the card, rub it with your fingers.

If you want the postcard to have a touch of antiquity, then apply craquelure varnish to the corners. See how the finished product will look then with this background.

Now you need to count how many flowers there are on your template card. There are 3 halves and one whole. Glue the paper flower in place of the one drawn, and cut the next whole in half and glue it also in its place.

Here's what happens.

You can use another, simpler option. Also take artificial roses, but you do not need to glue the whole one, disassemble each one into petals. Glue them onto the prepared surface of the postcard.

Attach rhinestones or other shiny elements to the middle, finish decorating the card.

You can also use dried flowers to make cardmaking postcards. To do this, you need to attach them using a glue gun. But first, the paper needs to be aged or bought ready for scrapbooking. Such a product looks like an antique.

Now you can use one of the above techniques to create an extraordinarily beautiful present. Make it after the craftswoman.

DIY patchwork postcard

The second name for this technique is parchment. Here's what you need to create a cardmaking postcard:

  • colored paper;
  • scheme;
  • tracing paper, the density of which is 150 g / m2;
  • scissors with thin ends;
  • mousepad;
  • end tools with balls;
  • perforation mat;
  • a punching tool with one and the other with two needles;
  • ballpoint pen with non-writing refill;
  • colour pencils;
  • double-sided and masking tape;
  • transparent glue.
You can download the card scheme from the Internet. Choose the one you like.

Stick the tracing paper on this diagram with double-sided tape. Place this blank on a soft and dense mouse pad and start tracing around all the curls with a non-writing ballpoint pen.

When pressed, a white trace will remain on the tracing paper. Just don't press too hard so that the paper doesn't break.

See what happens as a result of such manipulations from the front and from the seamy side.

Now you need to turn the drawing over so that the wrong side becomes the front. Sharpen the lines. To do this, first circle them using a tool with a 1 mm ball, and then with a 2 mm ball.

Start with one curl, gradually highlight it.

Now move on to the next piece of work. Decorate it the same way. First outline the contours with a smaller ball, then use a larger one. Here's what you should get.

After completing this stage of work, cardmaking continues with punching. Place a punching mat in front of you, as well as single- and double-needle tools.

Place the workpiece on this rug and pierce it with a double needle first. Then there will be the same distance between the holes, since you will first make two holes, then insert one needle into one of them and make another puncture next to it.

Now, with scissors with narrow ends, you need to cut out the inside of the formed triangle.

Having practiced on one, you can design other similar elements of the postcard in the same way.

Now unfold the work with the wrong side up and start coloring with colored pencils. When you flip the sheet right side up, you get pretty shades.

The first photo shows a view from the seamy side, the second from the front.

Continue punching your work to create a frame. Now attach a sheet of colored paper on the back side, see what shade you would like to see the card. In this case, lilac was perfect.

And now you need to cut out the base for the postcard and glue a decorative rectangle made of tracing paper on it. It is best to attach this element with double-sided tape. Glue is also used. The arrows show where to apply it.

When it dries up, you can hand over such an author's postcard to please a loved one.

Postcards for the newborn

When a joyful event happens in the family, a baby appears, close people congratulate the young parents. Make a postcard that will become a memorable sign that has been preserved for many years. For such a product, you can use leftover scrap paper. If you are into this craft, you will certainly have them.

Here's what you need:
  • glue;
  • scrap paper trimming;
  • scissors;
  • buttons;
  • beer cardboard;
  • hand-drawn image of a baby;
  • the basis for the postcard;
  • flowers;
  • lace;
  • felling.

Take a picture of a baby and stick it on a napkin. Attach beer cardboard to the back.

If your postcard will measure 15 by 10 cm, then now prepare a base for it, the size of which is 14.5 by 9.5 cm. Old the edges with scissors, bending them over the sides of the paper.

Here's how to do cardmaking a postcard next. It is necessary to collect all the parts, glue to the substrates. Do not apply glue to the edges so that you can put lace under them.

Place the laces and notches in the form of flags.

Glue the baby's picture, decorate the card with leaves, flowers, buttons.

Glue to the base, after which you can give a cardmaking card, made in the shabby style, to happy parents.

Unlike scrap, which requires special paper, curly hole punches, special decorations, etc., to create cardmaking everything that everyone has in the house is suitable: beads, buttons, cardboard, paints, ribbons.

And there are still a huge number of such techniques, everything that is at hand, and everything that you know how to do can be applied in cardmaking.

A simple lesson

In this master class, we suggest that you make a postcard from available means.

The philosophy of cardmaking says: "In order to congratulate a person from the heart, you need to put your soul into the congratulation."
Cardmaking is not at all the new kind handmade and creativity. In fact, postcards were made in many countries in ancient times, and in Europe, since the 13th century, postcards have begun to gain popularity. Of course, it was an extremely expensive pleasure that was available only to wealthy people. This slowed down the development of creating postcards, both with their own hands and with the help of craftsmen. But typography has made significant changes in the usual picture of the world of postcards, and hence cardmaking. Already in the 19th century, along with books, typographic postcards began to appear. But, as you know, the presence of a huge amount of goods made on a machine very often gives rise to a boom in home-made works.

So it happened in this case: creating postcards with your own hands began to gain momentum, and today many people are already keen on this hobby. There is a craftswoman in Aktau - Yana Mityaeva, she makes handmade cards of any complexity.

"Lada": Yana, why did you choose cardmaking from many types of needlework?
Yana Mityaeva: Being in maternity leave, I came across a forum where they discussed hand-made products. And disappeared - I was simply swallowed up by creativity. Initially, I liked almost all directions. I started doing scrapbooking, decoupage, sewing dolls - almost everything that was on the forum, until I finally found my niche. Later, cardmaking became my main occupation. Since then, creativity has been my main activity, not work, but a way of life.

"Lada": What materials and tools are needed to make handmade postcards?
Yana Mityaeva: For beginners, this is paper, scissors and glue, only then you need to move on. The punching and embossing machine is my favorite assistant, various hole punches for decorating the corners and edges of the paper, and so on.

"Lada": How long does it take for one job?
Yana Mityaeva: It takes about an hour to make one postcard. Various styles are used in cardmaking. The choice of style depends on the purpose of the postcard. Before starting work, I always think over the composition.

"Lada": What style directions do you use in your works?
Yana Mityaeva: Vintage postcards are a kind of retro style, they are made in antique style, in pastel colors. Consequently, the decorative elements on the postcard are associated with the past. Here I am using old buttons, yellowed fabrics and lace. Grunge postcards are a complete freedom of creativity, not limited by any framework. Postcards of this style can be with torn edges, with elements of wear. The colors are usually dim, dark: brown, gray, black. This style is more applicable when making postcards for men. I believe that you should do what you like. A the best gift in the hand-made style, you can only do what you put your heart into.

DIY workshop on making original postcards

The first thing we do is cut out the blanks for the postcard.

Then we glue double-sided tape on the first template. We put on the second sheet, glue it to the main one and raise the edges, in the form of a box. We decorate the inside, glue the embossed multi-colored cardboard.

Now let's start making a cover for our postcard. We cut out curly elements on paper with a hole punch. And we collect the lid, carefully gluing the corners.

The interior decor of the postcard can be anything, the most important thing here is imagination.
Cut strips out of multi-colored cardboard using curly scissors and glue them to the center of our postcard.

In our case, with a special hole punch - a stencil, we cut out butterflies and glue them inside the box. We decorate the inner walls of the postcard with small details, it can be flowers and rhinestones.

Glue wishes with congratulations on the inside of the main sheet.

We adjust the cover to the size of the folded postcard. When folded, our handmade postcard looks like a box. It remains to decorate the lid.

A drawing or a thematic inscription is applied to the cardboard. Using curly scissors, cut out the printed sheet to the size of the cover.

We glue it on the lid and decorate with butterflies, flowers and rhinestones.

Our original gift with congratulations inside ready!

Surely the term "Cardmaking" you have met on the net more than once. When I first saw this word, I thought it was just another kind of newfangled hobby that came to us from the west. But as it turned out, I have been fond of this "new" species for a long time and it is nothing more than making greeting cards with my own hands (translated from English, card - postcard, make - to do).

Many sources of information say that cardmaking- this is one of the areas of scrapbooking, that these two types of creativity are very closely related to each other, and the like. That they are related - I do not argue, but that cardmaking is part of scrapbooking, I do not quite agree. After reading a little history about these types of creativity, I came to the conclusion that each of them originated independently, independently of each other, so I consider cardmaking as an independent type of creativity.

The art of making postcards by hand originated in ancient China, there was a custom of New Year exchange small handmade cards. And only in 1400 this art came to Europe, where it gained extraordinary popularity. Until the middle of the 19th century, people exchanged hand-made postcards for various holidays.

But by the end of the 19th century began scientific and technical progress, special printing devices appeared and the production of postcards was put on the conveyor. People began to give each other the same type of printed postcards. Thank God that at least they left a place for writing congratulations - the only place where you could leave a “piece of your soul” in the form of a congratulation for a loved one. But over time, people became so lazy that they began to issue postcards with ready-made congratulations, it was only necessary to sign the postcard from whom. And sometimes they even gave me unsigned postcards - “why, so everything is already written there?”…. In my opinion, in such postcards the whole meaning is lost, because we give a postcard to express our feelings to a loved one, to leave something about ourselves as a souvenir ... But perhaps a postcard printed in a printing house with a circulation of several thousand copies with congratulations, which was written by a completely unfamiliar to us a person (even the most professional editor) can express those feelings, those wishes, those words that we want to address to our dearest, closest people? I am sure that everyone will agree with me and say - of course not. That is why in last years the art of making postcards with your own hands is reviving again. Moreover, many began to make postcards not only for their loved ones, but also to order.

What can postcards be made of?

Many people think that in order to do cardmaking, you need to buy a lot various materials, special paper, tools, various decorations and the like, but all this is not cheap. But this all applies to postcards made in the style of scrapbooking. This is where cardmaking comes into contact with scrapbooking. Indeed, postcards made with all of these scrapbook stuff are considered the most beautiful. But if you do not have any curly hole punches, stamps, special decorations, this does not mean that you cannot make a postcard with your own hands. After all, cardboard, threads, buttons, beads, ribbons, paints can always be found in the house. So, let's see what materials and tools can be used to make postcards with your own hands.

1. Paper- this is the main material that will be needed. It can be ordinary cardboard (white or colored), ordinary colored paper, foil, wrapping paper of any texture - all this can be found in ordinary stores, and you probably have this at home. You can also buy special paper for scrapbooking - this is certainly a preferable option, because this paper is distinguished by its quality and variety of patterns and colors. Well, in the end, you can make paper with your own hands - this is different ways aging, coloring with coffee or tea, using paint spray, etc.
2. Decor elements- here there are truly infinitely many sources - these are beads, beads, sequins, buttons, strings, ribbons, lace, braid, various scraps of fabric, feathers, dried leaves, spikelets, flowers, coffee grains, various cereals, spices, etc. ... In special stores you can buy ready-made jewelry - artificial flowers, figurines, brads, eyelets, half-beads, die-cuttings, chipboards, stickers and much else you can buy there, if you had money.
3. Tools- this is glue, preferably double-sided tape, scissors - everything that can be found at home. Well, in addition, you can purchase all sorts of special tools that are used in scrapbooking.

Techniques used to make postcards

1. Scrapbooking- This technique is most often used now for making postcards. All materials and tools used in scrap are used, as well as sketches, styles and techniques, such as embossing, embossing, stamping. The only difference between a scrapbook page and a postcard is that, as a rule, personal photographs are not placed on a postcard, but various pictures, printed or cut out, are used.

2. Decoupage... This technique involves the use of cut paper motifs. Motifs can be cut from paper napkins, various magazines, and other ready-made postcards. Fortunately, here we do not need to worry about how the paper motif will stick to the surface - we will stick it on paper. This method is very suitable for those who have not yet had time to purchase special patterned paper for making postcards. And if you show your imagination, you can create very beautiful motifs for your postcards, as, for example, did the master Anna Chuska, using the decoupage technique on eggshells for the postcard. Here's what she did.

3. Iris folding(Iris Folding) - filling the picture cut out along the contour with multi-colored stripes. Elements of this technique are great for making postcards. There are many different patterns that can be used to make great motifs and use them to make postcards.

4. (Pop up) - a technique for making volumetric postcards. For this, there are special ready-made pop-up schemes, using which you can create voluminous postcards of unprecedented beauty.

5. - for the manufacture of postcards, embroidered motifs are used; any embroidery techniques are suitable - cross stitch, satin stitch, beads, ribbons. The finished motive is inserted into the blank and your postcard is ready.

6. Quilling Is the manufacture of decorative elements by twisting paper strips into a spiral. This technique gives a very large scope for creativity and does not require much investment.

7. Origami- This technique is also often used in the manufacture of postcards, for example, in the form of a shirt or dress folded from a sheet of paper.

These are the basic craft techniques used for cardmaking. But there are a few more techniques, less common, but which I would like to mention, perhaps this will give you the basis for imagination and immediate implementation.

Ornare(Ornare) - drawing holes, poking out a pattern with a needle according to a template, another name for this technique is Pricking. There are special patterns, using which you create amazing ornaments on paper with an ordinary needle.

Pergamano(Pergamano) is a technique for making postcards (and not only) on parchment paper, or tracing paper, using embossing and perforation. Parchment paper is a thick tracing paper - 150 g / m2. Plain tracing paper, which is sold in office supply stores, will not work, because it is too thin to withstand this “rough” treatment. The tracing paper for parchment is also distinguished by the fact that if you drag something hard over it, then a white trace remains on its surface, due to which the patterns are obtained.

These are the techniques I know. If you, dear readers, know and use any other techniques for making postcards with your own hands, write in the comments, show them on the forum, and I will gladly supplement the article.
